Understanding Public Attitudes to Aid and Development

In 2012, the UK remains one of the world’s strongest advocates for the international development agenda. The most recent figures show the UK is the world’s third largest provider of official development assistance (ODA) in absolute terms, and ranks sixth in terms of its ODA spending as a proportion of gross national income (GNI). Cross-party consensus on support for global development issues has protected the ODA budget in recent years, and the Coalition government remains committed in principle, if not yet in law, to meeting the international target of spending 0.7% of GNI on ODA by 2013.
